By Daniel Bernzweig

Look what I can do…look what I can do! Better known as, I made my first ever Scrapbook page using a Stampin Up’ Simply Scrappin’ Scrapbooking Kit. While scrapbooking kits are supposed to take most of the guess work out of creating a page, I was still a bit leary. Boy was I wrong!

My First Scrapbook Page Using a Stampin' Up! Scrapbook Kit

Grabbing some pictures of a trip to Australia with my brother back in 2001 and the “Tailor-Made” Stampin Up’ Simply Scrappin’ Kit, I was on my way. What made the kit so great was the fact that everything I needed to complete the page pictured above, was included, except one item - Dotto. “Dotto” is adhesive dots that come in a hand dispenser for applying your photographs to your scrapbook page. Dotto also allows repositioning of items if you want to change something later.

If you are looking to try your hand at scrapbooking or new at it like me, the Stampin Up’ Simply Scrappin’ Scrapbooking Kits are the way to go. I found it to be fun and easy, yet I was still able to use my own creativity to put a personal touch on the scrapbook page.

The Tailor-Made Scrapbooking Kit By Stampin' Up!
                       (Images © Stampin' Up!)

The Tailor-Made Scrapbooking Kit (Stampin Up catalog item #114326) was $19.95 and Dotto adhesive with dispenser (catalog item #103305) was $12.95. The scrapbook kit comes with enough supplies and embellishments to make many scrapbook pages not just one. I did get hungry while making the page and believe the only other item Stampin Up may want to include with the kits is a snack or dare I dream big, a boxed lunch. Sorry but we men do get hungry.

Other Scrapbook page kits in the Simply Scrappin’ line are:

Petal Party 113059
Best Ever 112054, Spanish version: Lo Mejor de Todo 112970
Love Sparkles 113918
Hoppy Memories 113936
Sweet Nothings 113925
Sunshine Garden 113911
Love Stories 112179
Rock-a-Bye Boy 112172
Rock-a-Bye Girl 112165
2 Sweet 113943

How to view or order any of these Stampin Up products:

Hopefully you will give scrapbooking a whirl. If you do, leave me a comment and let me know how it works out for you!

Say Goodbye to the Stampin’ Up Retired List and Hello to the Last Chance List

By Daniel Bernzweig

For as many years as I can remember, Stampin Up would release their retired list. The list consists of rubber stamp sets that will be gone forever when the new catalog arrives. This year Stampin Up is re-naming the retired list as the “last chance list”. This year’s list will debut on June 1, 2009.

Don’t cry over spilled ink

With so many “favorite” stamp sets leaving, there are many emotions to be had such as sadness, happiness, anger and more. I like to think the ink pad is half full. When items leave the catalog, it opens up space in the catalog for new and exciting rubber stamp sets. The creative crew at Stampin Up is always coming up with new designs and cutting edge products for your crafting pleasure.

If you find there are stamp sets on the list that you must have, grab them while you can. The last day to purchase will be June 30, 2009. I will post here as soon as the last chance list is released. Add this site to your favorites, tell your friends, even emboss husbandofastamper.com on your forehead but do check back here on June 1st.

If one list is not enough

Another list to be released on June 1 will be the retired Stampin Up accessories. Some accessories will also be leaving the catalog and unlike the rubber stamp sets, accessories are limited in quantity. Many will sell out before the catalog end date of June 30, 2009.

Celebrate with a party

My wife Rebecca Bernzweig just told me she is planning something special when the last chance list is announced. Last year 10 of her customers got to pick a free Stampin Up product* and everyone who ordered $25. or more, got a free grab bag gift*. I will post more details on this site as I get them. UPDATE: Click here to see this years special.
*These items ship from Rebecca Bernzweig and ship separately from your Stampin Up order.
My wife Rebecca mentioned to me that Stampin' Up! is giving away free, the new Spring/Summer 2009 Idea Book & Catalog with any sized online order. It just dawned on me that she really meant it! It does not matter if you grab just one ink pad for $5.95 or a whole set of 12 ink pads or even the Color Caddy to store them in. It could be for that one rubber stamp set you have been dreaming about or dare I say, you splurged on the Stampin Up Big Shot die cutting machine. Big or small, any sized online order will get you a free catalog.

Now for the free Stampin Up catalog details and fine print:

You must place your Stampin Up order online.

Offer good February 1-April 30, 2009.

Stampin Up has alloted a set number of free catalogs. This promotion ends when that supply is gone or until April 30, 2009, whichever comes first.

The fine print: There is no fine print, just enjoy your free catalog!

Daniel

P.S. If you have not seen what the Stampin Up Big Shot can do for your rubber stamping and scrapbooking, you must take a look at it. The dies cut through 50 different materials to make embellishments for your crafting projects. And speaking as a man – it even cuts through metal! To see the big shot, go to Rebecca's online store, click “shop now”, click on “Die Cutting” and then on “Big Shot Machine and tools”.

Oh, Oh, Oh! I just remembered that there is a new Video that shows the Stampin Up Big Shot in action. Watch it now by going to Rebecca's Demonstrator website and at the bottom left you will see it as this months “Featured Project”.
Don't be sad, be happy! Celebrate the ending of the 2008 Stampin Up Catalog with my wife Rebecca Bernzweig as she throws her RebeccaStamps Stampin Up Retirement Party Promotion. Here's how the Retirement Party works:

The 10 highest order totals ($25+) by January 18, 2009 get their choice of a retirement gift. All orders will get a Stampin Up grab bag item. Please see her specials page for all the details.

What is the Stampin Up retired list? To make room in the new Stampin Up catalog, some rubber stamp sets and accessories must be moved out. This may seem like a sad event, but left in their dust are brand new Stampin Up rubber stamps and products. So if there are retiring items that you want, I urge you to grab them while you still can - NOW! Rebecca always gets a few calls and emails after the catalog ends, wanting to know if they can still get some of the retired products, but by then it's too late - when they're gone, they're gone.

Also ending at midnight January 18th is the Stampin Up inventory blowout sale. Save up to 50% on select Stampin Up products. These include retired, retiring and even current SU products. One of the half off items is the "Country Living Holiday Collection Stampin' Kit". Embellish your crafting projects with either silver or vanilla HodgePodge hardware. Both are 25% off. There are over 25 different items to save on.

The new 2009 Stampin Up catalog is here. I have to admit - I have not looked at the new catalog yet. Does that make me a BAD supporting demonstrator?!? Rebecca got home from SU Leadership in Orlando last weekend. While away she emailed me to say that the new catalog was the best one in her 12 years as a Stampin Up demonstrator. The catalogs came this week and she and I spent all our free time mailing them out to the customers who requested them. I unpacked the catalogs from the boxes, stuffed Rebecca's flyers into them and inserted them into their mailing envelopes. So now I sit typing and realize that I never even opened one up and actually read it to see the new goodies. Guess what I am about to do!! Gotta run.......

Happy Stamping,

Daniel

P.S. This weekend I will be stamping something with one of the new rubber stamp sets from Stampin Up. I will post it later this week.

Last month my wife Rebecca Bernzweig had her Stampin’ Up! 2008 new catalog open house event at a local hotel. I knew I would be asked to help with things like setting up and moving heavy boxes but never thought she would ask me to demonstrate a card! For her customers!! Here is the card which uses a Stampin’ Up! stamp set called Winds of Grace:

Rebecca’s thinking was a card that could be demonstrated quickly (and that I could do) and that used Stampin’ Up! Stampin Pastels. Stampin Pastels are high quality chalks. Rebecca has found that many of her customers are curious about pastel chalks but are not always sure how to use them when crafting. I found the pastels were easy to use and gave a great look.

Do you need a quick rubber stamping card idea?

I thought the card would be great when you need to whip up something last minute. It could be used for someone going on a cruise or graduating or even to give along with a retirement gift.

Card Instructions:

1. Using a sponge dauber, I applied the blue pastel of the ocean first and then the sky. I went heavier on the ocean and lighter on the sky.
2. This was, my wife tells me, an unusual case where you apply the color before stamping. To gauge where I would apply the chalk under the sailboat, I held the sailboat rubber stamp just over the spot that looked good to me. Then quickly moving it away, I applied the pastel chalk in a triangular shape, where the sailboat would be placed.
3. I inked up the sailboat stamp and made the impression. The same with the word stamp.
4. Then came a little more chalk to give a horizon effect. The card was completed by rubber stamping the shore line.

Here are the Stampin’ Up! products I used:

Winds of Grace rubber stamp set
Basic Brown ink
Stampin’ Pastels
Sponge Daubers
Naturals Ivory card stock

Wow, only five products were needed to make the card! That’s what made it so easy for me to learn & demonstrate and why I think it would be great when you need that last minute card.

What other events would this card be useful for? How did I do? Feel free to post a comment below with your suggestions, ideas and feedback.

Daniel
www.husbandofastamper.com

If you need any of the Stampin’ Up! products I used for your own project, you can pick them up from Rebecca anytime online. Just visit her official Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator web site and click “Shop Now” at the top.

Note: My wife Rebecca is a very modest person and is going to kill me for making this post. I am so PROUD of the achievements she has made in her Stampin’ Up! business. This is my small way of letting her know. So here it goes….

It Began With a Trip.

This year, along with my wife Rebecca Bernzweig, I attended the Stampin’ Up! 2008 Convention in Salt Lake City UT. When Rebecca made the convention reservation, the confirmation said she should visit the awards booth on her arrival. She did not think much of this at the time since she knew that she had achieved some free stamp sets and the like over the course of the year. Little did she know what was in store for her.

We arrived at the convention center and from an upper level, saw thousands of excited people busily thumbing through the just released Stampin’ Up! 2008 Idea Book and Catalog. We then worked our way down and picked up our convention bags. Each bag was filled with neat things like: free rubber stamp sets, the new catalog, a Stampin’ Up! Pen (sorry, I am a guy and thought the pen was neat) and other goodies.

We then headed to the awards booth where a very nice man retrieved – MORE rubber stamp sets and some recognition pins for Rebecca to wear. The man then said that he had forgotten something and could we wait a moment. When he returned, he asked Rebecca “What are you doing in September because you have achieved the Founders Circle trip”. He then proceeded to hand her a beautiful (man speak: really neat) pink leather designer bag. I was really excited for her. She has worked so hard.

Here’s a picture of the Founders Circle bag.

What is founders Circle?

Founders Circle recognizes the top 100 demonstrators and other category achievers, for all their hard work over the past year. By hard work I mean helping their customers create, learn and enjoy the wonderful creations that can be made with Stampin’ Up! products. Who knew that helping people have fun rubber stamping and scrapbooking was work?

The Reward.

Rebecca and the other demonstrators will be attending a retreat with the co-founder of Stampin’ Up! Shelli Gardner. They will be relaxing, doing make and takes, sightseeing and making new friends. I heard there is shopping involved also. They will then visit the Stampin’ Up! manufacturing facility to see where rubber stamps are born.

Rebecca is Very Modest.

Rebecca does this business for just one reason. To help her customers enjoy a hobby where they can be so creative and step out of their everyday lives even if that is for a few short hours. She does not do it for the accolades but I once heard her say, “if they want to throw nice things my way for doing something I love, so be it”. Because of her modesty, she would hate for me to say where she placed in the top 100, so I won’t. Let’s just say she was less than #32 and more then #30.

Over the 11 years that Rebecca has been a demonstrator, I have seen her grow in many ways. From starting part time and doing rubber stamping workshops so she could show people that “anyone can be creative,” to her unselfish attitude of helping people with their stamping questions. These are people who, for one reason or another, will never be customers or who are already demonstrators (not even in her group) and who are just getting started. Rebecca now does this as her full time income.

Rebecca, I am very proud of you.

Demonstrator” on her website.

To top it off, they made a pencil topper.
This has been a fun week. This past Friday, my wife Rebecca Bernzweig had two of her good friends come by, Laura and Gwynne. Laura is a Stampin' Up demonstrator from Milford MA and Gwynne is also a SU demo who brought her swaps she collected at January's Stampin' Up leadership conference held in Palm Springs, CA.

I happened to take the first half of the day off from work and was able to snap this picture of them (L to R Gwynne, Laura and Rebecca):

I am told that after I left they went down to Rebecca's craft room and showed each other new rubber stamping techniques. Rebecca told me about a few of them and something about a paper flower....I quickly zoned out and asked what was for dinner. Rebecca did not seem to appreciate that. Bad Husband.

When I got home last Monday, I asked my wife why I had not heard from her all day. She told me that she had been swamped because Stampin' Up has many specials going on in the month of May. A special on Chipboard and also a cutting combo pack special. Lastly, there is 20% off the Demonstrator Starter Kit along with a Free Hodgepodge Hardware kit for anyone that becomes a new Stampin Up demonstrator. (This week's new mission for me: Find out what a Hodgepodge Hardware kit is.)

Let's rewind even further to Friday, May 2. Stampin' Up did a very nice thing and let people that had been demonstrators for 10 years or more, sign up for convention earlier than normal. So guess what? Rebecca signed up AND she signed up for me to attend also!! Yes, I have been a supporting Stampin' Up demonstrator for many years. Over the years this has meant that while Rebecca was at convention or doing a workshop or a class, I have taken phone messages or orders from customers, so Rebecca could follow up when she got home. I decided that since she made Stampin' Up her full time career almost three years ago, the least I could do was attend convention and really support her when she needs me to. If she is taking it seriously, then I need to also.

Other Stampin' Up supporting demonstrator duties I have helped with over the years:

1) Using my nose as a glitter magnet. First thing in the morning, coworkers sometimes tell me I have glitter on my nose even though I've taken a shower just two hours earlier.

2) One year when Rebecca was away at the Stampin' Up regional seminar in Providence RI, I taped her favorite TV show. I really strained myself that year.

3) Making sure that pizza arrives before she gets back from home workshops so we can both eat.

There is more but I will leave that for another time.

Will I do a card swap at convention? What does this next week hold for Husband of a Stamper? Will I get dinner on stamp club night this week? Stay tuned for the answers.

Daniel
www.husbandofastamper.com

P.S. Is your favorite man a husband of a stamper? Show him this website so I
know there are others like me out there. I would be thrilled if you or
he left me a comment. It would make my week!

Tomorrow I will be creating and making my swap for the upcoming Stampin' Up! cruise to Bermuda. What did I get myself into!?! I have only made 1 card in my whole life. You can view it on my gallery at Splitcoaststamper.com.

The swap is for husbands of Stampin' Up! demonstrators who will be on the cruise. There will be 25 of us husbands participating.

I am expecting to have either a tutorial or video posted here, so you can see not only how it came out but also how it was made. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it will come out well and keep tuned here for the results in all it's colorful glory.
